Synergy

Synergy - This is when different companies work together to promote a range of related products.
Two companies work together to form a product that couldn’t be achieved on its own.

When the interaction of two or more forces working together creates a greater effect than the sum of their individual efforts.
Media synergy is the way in which different elements of a media conglomerate work together to promote linked products across different media.
It works when different elements within a media conglomerate (e.g. film studio, record label, video game division) promotes created linked products (e.g. film, soundtrack, video game) so that they all publicise each other

In 2000 AOL and Time Warner merged.  The promotion of Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone by AOL Time Warner is a good example of synergy:
  • Adverts for the film were shown on HBO and the WB, both American TV channels which are subsidiaries of Time Warner.
  • The soundtrack was released on Atlantic Records, part of Warner Music.
  • Articles about the film appeared in newspapers and magazines owned by Time Warner.
  • AOLs internet service was offering merchandise, and ticket promotions tied to subscriptions for AOLs services.
synergy is when two media companies work together to promote related products across different media platforms. An example of Synergy would be the Skyfall advertisements that were featured along side other products like Coca Cola. This is because the James Bond character is shown on special edition coca cola cans, promoting the film

  1. You must improve your explanation of your examples - HOW has synergy been used? WHAT companies worked together?

I know we've spoken about this in lessons, but your work ethic seems to have gone downhill Aden - you need to be completing all work to the best of your ability.
